GKN Aerospace Agrees to New Partnership with Pratt & Whitney on the PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ Engine for the Irkut MC-21

Agreement Potentially Worth More Than $650 Million Over the Life of the Program

GKN Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney have agreed on a risk and revenue sharing partnership (RRSP) in the PurePower PW1400G-JM engine, which will power the Irkut MC-21 mid-range, single aisle aircraft. GKN estimates this RRSP is expected to be worth more than $650 million over the life of the program.

This latest agreement gives GKN Aerospace responsibility for the design and manufacture of the turbine exhaust case (TEC) and the compressor intermediate case (IMC) for the PW1400G-JM engine. Engine certification is scheduled for the end of 2015 followed by entry into service in late 2017.

In September 2014, GKN Aerospace announced a risk and revenue sharing partnership for the PW1900G engine for the Embraer E-jet 190/195E2 in an agreement GKN estimated to be worth in excess of $2.5 billion over the life of the program.

"Again, this latest RRSP sees us working with Pratt & Whitney from a base of certified parts which helps streamline development, reduce risk, simplify certification and ease maintenance once the aircraft is in service."

The PW1400G-JM engine is a derivative of the PW1100G-JM engine, developed for the Airbus A320neo. GKN Aerospace also has an RRSP with Pratt & Whitney for the same components for the A320neo and is responsible for the design and manufacture of all TECs and IMCs for Pratt & Whitney's PurePower Geared Turbofan engines, including the PW1200G, PW1500G, the PW1700G and the PW1900G engines.
