Pratt & Whitney earned a place of honor at an East Hartford, Conn., eatery on Monday when "The Eaglewich" joined the menu at Augie & Ray's. The landmark diner, a local fixture for more than 60 years, dedicated its new chicken sandwich to its longtime Main Street neighbor.

"The Eaglewich," a 5-ounce chicken cutlet served with lettuce, tomato and a choice of horseradish or barbecue sauce, joins a menu already packed with area flavor. U.S. Rep. John Larson and Goodwin College President Mark Scheinberg are among the local luminaries who have been honored with namesake burgers.

Pratt & Whitney turned to its employees for help in naming the new sandwich, soliciting hundreds of suggestions from around the world. Potential names included wordplay on the Pratt & Whitney "Dependable Engines" wordmark, engine test references, past and present product placements, and dozens of eagle-themed options. "The Eaglewich" prevailed.

The new sandwich headlined Augie & Ray's daily specials board on Monday; at least one customer had ordered an "Eaglewich" before the name was officially unveiled at a midday ceremony.

Local officials, including East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc and East Hartford Chamber of Commerce President Timothy Coppage attended the event. Heather Summerer, manager, Corporate Social Responsibility and Company Events, represented Pratt & Whitney.
