Otis will provide 21 elevators and 47 escalators to the new World Trade Center Transportation Hub in lower Manhattan, New York. The Hub promises not only to bring architectural beauty to downtown Manhattan but also to significantly improve mass-transit connections throughout the region.
"Otis is proud to take part in the reconstruction at the World Trade Center,” said Otis President Didier Michaud-Daniel. “Our proven products and experience will be integral in providing safe and dependable transportation to the hub’s expected 250,000 pedestrians every day.“
Otis elevators and escalators will help connect passengers to existing and future transportation services, including World Trade Center office towers, the Memorial and Museum, Hudson River ferry terminals, the World Financial Center, PATH trains and 11 subway lines, as well as approximately 200,000 square feet of retail facilities. The hub is scheduled to open mid-2014.
Otis will install heavy-duty escalators to ensure reliability while minimizing environmental impact. These escalators include a high-efficiency lubrication system that reduces oil consumption by up to 98 percent. Otis products have been selected for mass-transit locations around the world, including Los Angeles International Airport in the U.S., Incheon International Airport in South Korea, Schkeuditz Airport in Germany, and metro systems in China, Germany, Singapore and Taiwan. The company also services elevators and escalators at high-performing buildings worldwide, such as the Shanghai World Financial Center.
