Otis Elevator Company Hong Kong and its subsidiary, Express Elevator Company, were recognized for their continued commitment to community service with a Caring Company Award for the fifth consecutive year from the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS). A prestigious Five Consecutive Years logo was also awarded to commemorate the important milestone. Otis is a part of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX).
“We take great pride in receiving this award yet again as it truly highlights the strong focus we have placed on promoting community involvement among our employees,” said Tom Vining, area director, Otis Hong Kong and Taiwan. “We have always believed it is our corporate responsibility to give back to the community, especially to those who most need our support. The award and the new logo recognize our success in building a caring corporate culture and the dedication of our employees.”
The Caring Company recognition program, introduced by HKCSS in 2002, aims to build a caring community by cultivating corporate citizenship and promoting strategic partnerships among the business, public and non-profit organizations. To be recognized, companies need to meet three criteria: Caring for the Community, Caring for Employees and Caring for the Environment. Otis earned this award by excelling in all three areas.
Since 2005, Otis’ volunteers have actively pursued and developed community programs targeted at helping the needy and underprivileged. More than 610 employees and their families contributed more than 4,800 voluntary hours to provide assistance to elderly people and children in need.
In caring for its employees, Otis has taken a proactive approach to offer a number of benefits to its own employees, including a company-sponsored Employee Scholar Program, flexible work arrangements, and special events for employees and their children.
Otis is also committed to providing environmentally friendly solutions and minimizing the impact of its operations. The company’s flagship solutions like Gen2® elevators with ReGen™ drives reduce energy consumption by up to 75 percent compared to conventional systems with non-regenerative drives. Otis’ worldwide operations include green manufacturing facilities such as the Otis Elevator Company TEDA Center in China, which achieved Gold-level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Worldwide, Otis constantly strives to minimize energy and water consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions, while promoting the reuse of resources. Otis Hong Kong maintains this momentum through its annual Environment, Health and Safety Day, environmental management system and standard processes all focused on minimizing environmental impact.
