BOGOTÁ, Colombia, Jan. 18, 2016— Atrio, the two-tower project now under construction in the Bogota International Center, will feature 32 Otis elevators and six Otis escalators, including 12 SkyRise® elevators, in its north tower. Otis, the world’s leading manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
The Atrio mega-project is promoted by QBO, ARPRO and Grupo <a>, and is being built by AED consortium (ARPRO Colombia and EllisDon Canada). The project consists of two towers, each over 200 meters tall, and surrounded by 10,000 square meters of open space available to the public. Lucky Global Elevator S.A.S. and International Elevator Inc. in Colombia (Otis Colombia) will supply 12 SkyRise elevators, the latest generation of Otis elevators specifically for high rise projects, for the north tower. The north tower will reach 200 meters and 44 floors; while the south tower will reach 269 meters and 67 floors, becoming the tallest building in Colombia. The elevator supplier for the south tower has not yet been decided.
SkyRise elevators integrate modern features for speed control, safety and energy efficiency. At Atrio, eight of the 12 SkyRise elevators will reach a speed of 6 meters per second, the fastest Otis elevators in Colombia, and will have a carrying capacity of up to 2,000 kilograms. Otis will provide 20 additional elevators, including 10 of its innovative Gen2® elevators, and six escalators.
“Atrio will contribute to the advancement of the urban landscape of Bogotá and will push architectural modernization that is expanding in Colombian cities. We have been ensuring that all parts of the project are of an exceptional quality, and for that reason, we selected Otis to provide their specialized equipment for the world-class construction at Atrio,” said Rodrigo Rubio Vollert, representative of AED consortium.
The Otis elevators will use Otis’ energy-saving ReGen™ Drive, which captures the energy generated by the elevator that would otherwise be wasted, and returns it to the building’s electric network. The ReGen regenerative drive can reduce the elevator energy consumption by 50 percent compared to conventional equipment without regenerative drives, under normal operating conditions.
“Our selection for this project shows Otis’ commitment to developing modern and efficient solutions for ambitious and complex projects, meeting the design needs of developers and architects. The SkyRise elevators offer modern technology, flexible design, speed and a better experience for the passengers, and they’re backed by the support of a global organization,” said Frank Smith, managing director of Otis Colombia.
