MEXICO CITY, Sept. 21, 2016 — The recently expanded Otis SkyRise elevator family is now available to builders and architects in Mexico. The Otis SkyRise elevator is designed for the world’s tallest and most iconic buildings. It now includes the innovative SkyBuild self-climbing construction elevator, which enables builders to complete high-rise projects faster while reducing costs. Otis, the world’s leading manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
This SkyRise elevator is the newest generation of Otis solutions for high-rise projects, integrating modern technologies for speed control, safety, energy efficiency, and offering a superior passenger experience.
The self-climbing SkyBuild elevator joins the SkyRise family as a time-saving option. Installed at the beginning of a building’s construction, the SkyBuild elevator allows movement of crews and tools quickly and safely – without an external lift or exposure to weather. Its unique hydraulic piston system enables it to quickly climb one floor at a time as the building rises. Once construction is complete, the SkyBuild elevator quickly transitions for immediate service as a SkyRise elevator. SkyBuild offers convenience and agility and can reduce costs.
“The Otis SkyRise product family combines a refined passenger experience with state-of-the-art elevator technologies and support our customers can count on,” said Bora Gulan, vice president, Global Major Projects and Key Accounts, Otis. “Our dedicated global major projects teams, together with our R&D engineers, have the deep knowledge and expertise that comes from experience on some of the world’s most iconic buildings to make high-rise projects reality. Our SkyBuild option now offers customers even more value with an elevator system that rises with the building — quickly and easily jumping one floor at a time to meet the requirements and pace of any project.”
Elevadores OTIS S De RL De CV (“Otis Mexico”), the local Otis operating unit, recently announced the new SkyRise elevator family to key customers in Mexico.
“In a world where energy is more expensive and land is scarcer, cities need ever-taller buildings with the most modern technology,” said Eduardo Borges, managing director, Otis Mexico. “Given its high urbanization rate, Mexico has developed great cities with buildings that show how Otis contributes to enable urban mobility with efficient, sustainable, safe and innovative products.”
The first project in Mexico with SkyRise elevators is Torre Virreyes, located in Mexico City. Concluded in 2015, this project is equipped with Otis elevators and escalators, including eight SkyRise elevators that will rise 28 floors at 5 meters per second.
SkyRise elevators can travel at speeds up to 732 meters per minute (12.2 meters per second) and have a carrying capacity of 900 to 5,000 kilograms. The noise-reducing cabin and aerodynamic cover, along with modern touch-screen CompassPlus™ destination dispatching system, which organizes passengers by their destinations, provide a quieter, smoother and faster experience than other elevators with traditional technology. Otis SkyRise elevators also come equipped with a ReGenTM regenerative drive, which captures energy that would otherwise be wasted in braking and accelerating and feeds it back into the building’s electrical grid.
