TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 21, 2016 — The Otis Gen2® elevator is now available in Taiwan to elevate passengers’ riding experiences. The product launch was announced recently at a customer event, introducing one of Otis’ best-selling elevators to Taiwan. Otis, the world’s leading manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
The innovative Gen2® elevator system is designed to save energy and space, while maximizing passenger comfort. It features a revolutionary coated steel belt and is equipped with the ReGen® drive that reduces energy consumption. The Gen2 coated steel belt and innovative machine do not require lubrication.
“Taiwan is an important geography for Otis,” said Otis President Philippe Delpech. “We are investing resources in Taiwan to better serve our customers, including appointing a new leadership team, increasing our sales team and providing enhanced product offerings, like the launch of the Gen2® elevator. We plan to build on the success we’ve had in the rail and metro segments here.”
The Gen2® elevator is the first of several global technologies that Otis Elevator Company (Taiwan) Limited (Otis Taiwan), the local Otis operating unit, plans to introduce in Taiwan over the coming years, underscoring its commitment to customers in the region. In addition, Otis Taiwan will add new resources in Taiwan to enhance focus on customer needs and the product and service offerings to best meet those needs.

Philippe Delpech, President of Otis Elevator reiterated the importance of Taiwan market to Otis and committed to growing the region with greater resources at the official Gen2® elevator launch event.
With more than 50 years of rich history in Taiwan, Otis Taiwan has been a popular choice for infrastructure projects, including Taipei MRT, Taiwan Railways Administration, MOTC and Taiwan High Speed Rail.
Customers in Taiwan will also benefit from Otis’ global digital transformation as Otis enhances connectivity through the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) to support advanced elevators while also providing mobility through smart phones to more than 30,000 service employees to provide better customer service and communication. Otis has already expanded its relationships with Microsoft and AT&T to develop state-of-the art connectivity and analytics solutions that will transform one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated equipment service networks.
Founded more than 160 years ago, Otis has installed elevators in some of the world’s tallest buildings, including the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur and Empire State Building in New York.
The Gen2® elevator system incorporates several technological advancements for improving operational efficiency, passenger comfort, and greater environmental sustainability.
Revolutionary steel belts enhance space efficiency:
The Gen2® machine-roomless and mini-machine room elevator options offer space savings for builders, making it ideally suited for both residential and commercial buildings. The revolutionary coated steel belt avoids the metal-to-metal contact of rope to sheave. Thanks to the significantly smaller bending radius that’s seen in wire ropes, the ultra-compact permanent magnet gearless machine is smaller and more efficient than conventional geared machines.
The innovative Gen2® elevator system features a revolutionary coated steel belt that does not require additional lubrication; it is equipped with the ReGen® drive that reduces energy consumption.
Designed for Energy Efficiency
The Gen2® Regen® drive uses unique regenerative technology to convert energy into electricity, which is then fed back to the internal power grid for use with other building systems. This reduces overall elevator energy consumption by 75 percent under normal operation compared to conventional geared machines with non-regenerative drives. Also, the Gen2® machine and coated steel belts require no additional lubrication, eliminating the need for associated storage, cleanup and disposal of hazardous waste.
Smooth, quiet performance
The Gen2® elevator’s unique, patented flat-belt drive technology significantly reduces vibration, providing passengers and tenants a remarkably smooth, quiet ride and improved overall comfort compared to conventional systems.
Enhanced seismic protection
The Gen2® elevator’s flat coated steel belts, coupled with the machine sheave's unique design, provide greater stability during seismic activity. No belt-jump cases were reported during the Great East Japan earthquake in 2011.
