When people go the extra-mile to help someone, it inspiring. That is just what the Otis team in Allentown, Pennsylvania, did when it received a request from a mom whose autistic son, Colin, is a huge fan of Otis elevators.
Lori O’Connor, who lives in the nearby town of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, recently contacted Otis hoping Otis could donate spare elevator parts to her son noting, “it would be a dream come true.”
“Our team strives to do all that we can to give to our community. When we received the request, the whole team stepped up to deliver something special for Colin,” said Allentown Branch Manager Anthony McGee. “Our team assembled a package for him that included elevator buttons, key switches, a full hall fixture, a stop switch, a sample Gen2® belt, informational handouts, and Otis stickers.”
As an added surprise, McGee, Otis Mechanic Mark Lawlor, and Account Manager Sean Haley delivered the package personally.
“It was great to spend time with Colin and answer all of his questions about elevators,” McGee said. “It’s always neat to see how our product and brand has an impact on people.”
Colin was especially excited to see Mark dressed in his Otis uniform. He was able to bring along additional treats for Colin – pairs of safety gloves and glasses, and a flashlight. The Otis team also presented him with a cap, glass, and bag with the Otis logo.
“The entire family was extremely appreciative of everything we did for them,” McGee said. “It feels good to know we made a difference.”
