Carla Lopez, a Global Supply Chain Center of Excellence specialist and President of the Pratt & Whitney Hispanic Leadership Forum (HLF) in Connecticut, feels that Hispanics merit more opportunities in the workforce. After spending most of her adolescence in Puerto Rico, she moved back to the United States speaking only Spanish. The struggle to adjust lit a fire in her. She became determined to help those who struggle with transition and culture change, feel united and a sense of family in their new surroundings.
She joined the Hispanic Leadership Forum to be able to support those coming from another country or trying to figure out who they want to be in a corporate environment.
“What we give to each other is a home, family and love. Sometimes that is missing – especially if you’re coming from a different area or country. Yes, everyone has challenges, but they can also push themselves and be able to be that person they want to be, anywhere they go.”
It is easy to see her passion and drive in both her work and community outreach. Carla is constantly pushing herself, her co-workers and her fellow HLF members. She wants everyone to know who they are, where they come from and what they are doing to improve the communities we live and work in. In Carla’s words, “if we can accomplish one thing, it is change. Change not just in a corporate environment; everywhere around us.”
