Lin Yan joined Otis 11 years ago and as China’s economy began to slow, she wanted to learn more about business and economic trends and how she could help meet the challenges that businesses were facing.
“We need fresh ideas to deal with today’s issues,” says Lin. “That’s the main reason I pursued an MBA.”
As senior manager of field support, Lin works directly on customer job sites. “I work with my team to help resolve issues correctly the first time,” she says. “I use many of the tools I learned in the MBA program to improve the work process and our team’s overall efficiency.”
One class that she found particularly helpful was on innovation – how you encourage it and how you apply it. “I have shared what I learned with my team, and we’ve used many of the principles to improve the quality of our work,” she says.
Lin is a strong proponent of the Employee Scholar Program. “As employees learn more and become stronger in their knowledge, they can contribute more significantly to the success of the company,” Lin says. “And that is what we should all want to do.”
