Pratt & Whitney’s Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine has been recognized by Fast Company’s 2016 Innovation by Design (IBD) Awards with an honorable mention in the Product category. There were more than 1,700 entries from around the globe for this year’s IBD awards.
The GTF was recognized for its ability to:
reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 3,600 metric tons per plane per year,
burn 16% less fuel,
and create 75% less noise for those on the ground.
The GTF represents an investment of more than $10 billion and two decades of relentless innovation. This game-changing technology will help meet a growing air travel demand, expected to double in the next 20 years.
