United Technologies and the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development (CFFPD) continue to expand on an educational effort that began last year to develop science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) curriculum programs for local Chinese schools. United Technologies and CFFPD teamed up with the Connecticut Science Center and the China Association of Children’s Science Instructors (CACSI) to adopt three curriculum units, which would help provide Chinese science teachers and educators with STEM educational resources.
These curriculum programs, developed by the Connecticut Science Center, were translated into Chinese in 2015 and the unit “Bridges” reached more than 200 science teachers and educators in China. Two condensed train-the-teacher workshops were organized by CACSI in Shanghai and Inner Mongolia potentially benefitting 10,000 students from primary to junior middle schools.

Last year, United Technologies announced a strategic partnership with CFFPD to launch, develop and deploy STEM education curriculum programs for primary and middle school students in Hong’an, Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou.
The program focuses on engaging students to help them gain thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to become the scientists and engineers of the future.
The translation and localization involved the joint efforts of top-tier STEM academic experts and think-tanks such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China Normal University, Southeast University, Shanghai STEM Cloud Center, Jiangsu Hands-brain Education (Think-tank), East China Normal University, etc.
United Technologies plans to expand this STEM program through ongoing collaboration with CFFPD and a broader array of philanthropic and professional partners.
