Employee giving

Workplace giving unites employees and strengthens local communities

For UTC’s employees based in the United States, UTC matches their gifts to non-profit organizations. These donations are made primarily through the United Way, Matching Gift and Volunteer Grant programs:

  • To help its neighbors, UTC supports local United Way chapters across the United States. United Way is a national network of nearly 1,300 local organizations that work to advance the common good by focusing on education, income and health. Our largest United Way workplace campaign is run annually in our corporate headquarters of Hartford, to benefit the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut. UTC and its business units both provide a corporate gift and run a workplace giving campaign that together in 2008 raised $7.2 million dollars, 25 percent of the local United Way's campaign total. The campaign continued UTC's proud tradition as the area's largest contributor to the United Way Community Campaign.
  • UTC's Matching Gift Program allows employees to double their contributions to their favorite non-profit educational, cultural and environmental organizations. Since 1967, UTC has matched millions of dollars in employee donations to schools, colleges and universities, cultural institutions and environmental organizations. In 2008 alone, UTC contributed nearly $1.2 million to employees' favorite non-profit organizations.
  • The Volunteer Grant Program is designed to recognize and encourage employee volunteer activities through contributions to specific organizations with which employees are involved. UTC provides $250 to any qualified organization for which an employee volunteers at least 60 hours per year. In 2008, UTC made more than 516 Volunteer Grants totaling nearly $130,000.
