FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW, July 17, 2006 -- Hamilton Sundstrand’s Kidde Aerospace & Defense business has been selected by Boeing to provide the lavatory and crew rest compartment smoke detectors for the 787 Dreamliner. Hamilton Sundstrand is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Boeing previously awarded Kidde contracts to supply fire suppression and protection systems for the Dreamliner’s cargo compartments and electronics bays. A variant of the Model 3000, used in those compartments and bays, will be used for both the lavatory and crew rest compartments.

"This award further demonstrates Kidde’s industry-leading technologies," said Tom Hillman, general manager of Kidde’s aviation business unit. "Our latest smoke detection design, the Model 3000, will reduce airline maintenance costs and further improve performance."

Boeing has awarded Kidde contracts on lavatory smoke detectors for all future 737, 747 and 777 aircraft. Deliveries begin in 2007.
