UTC has been named one of the "Top 25 Companies for African-Americans" by Black Professionals magazine.
The magazine called UTC "not only innovative in its technological advances, but also in pursuing a balanced work force and encompassing diversity."
The 25 companies are selected based on a survey distributed to Fortune 1000 companies, with the finalists chosen based on the diversity of their boards of directors, management and general employee population. as well as each company's diversity programs and initiatives.
The magazine recognized Tesfaye "Tes" Aklilu, UTC vice president of quality and manufacturing, as one of 2005's "Top 100 Blacks in Corporate America." Aklilu joined UTC in 1996 at Pratt & Whitney, after 16 years with Xerox.
UTC also was honored recently as one of the "Top 100 Diversity Employers," ranking 82nd, by The Black Collegian magazine.
In its October issue announcing the Top 100, the magazine profiled two UTC employees, tax attorney Felice Gray-Kemp and Lakiesha Vessel Hawkins, product development and validation engineer for the space shuttle main engine turbo-machinery program at Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne.
