United Technologies Exceeds Toys For Tots Goal

18,000 Toys raised by UTC and Partners

UTC Exceeds 2012 Toys For Tots Goal

For 31 consecutive years, United Technologies has proudly supported the Marine Corps Reserves’ Toys for Tots collection. The 2011 Toys for Tots drive ended successfully on Saturday with UTC, our employees and media partners responsible for collecting 18,000 toys – beating our goal of 17,000 – and helping the Marines exceed their goal of collecting 40,000 toys.

This year’s collection campaign included many successful media events with our partners, WDRC FM and AM and FOX CT. The first was a Black Friday live broadcast on Nov. 25 from the Westfield Meriden Shopping Center, featuring WDRC’s Jerry Kristafer and a live television broadcast on FOX CT. On Dec. 3 the Connecticut Science Center hosted a collection event that offered free admission with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy. The final media event on Dec. 16 was a live broadcast hosted by WDRC AM’s Brad Davis at Augie & Ray’s on Main Street in East Hartford.

Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children.  Over the 64 years of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, Marines have distributed more than 400 million toys to more than 188 million needy children.  In total, over the last three decades, UTC’s support has helped raise nearly 450,000 toys for needy families.

As a responsible corporate citizen, United Technologies seeks to engage and enrich the communities where our employees live and work and where we do business.  To support Vibrant Communities, United Technologies partners with leading organizations, such as Marine Corps Reserves’ Toys for Tots, to make certain our community investment produces meaningful and positive benefits.
