IndustryWeek Recognizes Pratt & Whitney North Berwick and Carrier Transicold Athens as 2015 North America Best Plants

2015-Best-Plants-Seal-Winner - SMALL

IndustryWeek magazine is recognizing two manufacturing facilities operated by United Technologies Corp. business units as among the Best Plants on the continent last year.

The UTC facilities – Pratt & Whitney’s plant in North Berwick, Maine, and the Carrier Transicold facility in Athens, Georgia – are in a select group of just eight plants in all of North America to receive this award.

The Best Plant award recognizes world-class facilities that excel in increasing competitiveness, enhancing customer satisfaction, and creating stimulating and rewarding work environments. Winners were selected based on rigorous performance metrics as well as dedication to continuous improvement.

Pratt & Whitney North Berwick, founded in 1979, has more than 1,400 employees. At 1 million square feet, it’s the largest manufacturing facility under one roof in the state of Maine. The site manufactures world-class modules, components and parts for military and commercial engines including the PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ engines and the F135 engine for the Joint Strike Fighter.

Carrier Transicold’s Athens plant, which has been in operation since 1988, is home to its Americas truck, trailer and rail refrigeration business. Equipment assembled in Athens is sold around the world and includes Vector™ and X4™ trailer refrigeration units and Supra™ truck refrigeration units – all of which provide protection for temperature-sensitive products such as food and pharmaceuticals. The facility also produces PowerLINE™ generator sets, which are used to power refrigerated shipping containers when hauled over land.

IndustryWeek will include a profile of the Athens and North Berwick facilities in its April/May issue and will feature the operations at its 2016 Manufacturing & Technology Conference and Expo being held May 3-5 in Chicago.
