Galina Dineva joined UTC Climate, Controls & Security with a strong background and degree in finance. But she was eager to move into the strategic side of the business. She completed an MBA program to round out her education and bring her closer to her career goals.

“The Employee Scholar Program opened many doors in my professional life, including the opportunity to move to my current role,” says Galina. Her job is indeed a perfect blend of finance and business. As business intelligence and development manager for Specialty Detection & Suppression Systems she operates on two fronts. “One aspect of my job is to provide segment analysis to the leadership team and sub-business units so they can make strategic decisions as they develop their business plans. The second aspect is identifying potential merger and acquisition opportunities, evaluating them and seeing deals through to closure.”

Galina credits her MBA with broadening her professional and personal networks and exposing her to students of different nationalities, industries and interests. “It’s good to be able to bounce off ideas and practices with colleagues and friends from different domains,” says Galina. “It gives you perspectives that you may not have considered otherwise.”

She also developed some personal traits that have proved invaluable. “Some of the most important learning points for me were prioritization, time management and stress control. While I was taking classes, I was stretched to levels I didn’t know I could handle. But I did. And I’m still guided by those lessons.”
