Charles Jiang

November 7, 2016

Charles Jiang sums up his Employee Scholar Program experience this way: “Luck comes after hardship.” The hardship he refers to is the same situation most scholars experience – juggling work and classes. Says Charles, “It was very demanding but I’m glad I persevered.”

As part of the marketing team for Otis, Charles was able to apply his coursework to his job almost immediately. “I was better able to analyze markets and develop marketing plans that helped our management in their decision-making,” says Charles.

With his economics degree behind him, Charles began pursuing an MBA from the University of Maryland. This gave him management skills and a broad view of global industries and their approach to problem solving.

Charles’ ambition and commitment to lifelong learning did not go unnoticed. He has steadily advanced within Otis and now is general manager of Otis Macau.

“I’m very grateful to UTC,” says Charles, who used his master’s thesis to express his appreciation for the opportunities the ESP provided him. Today one of his major priorities is to encourage the development of other employees. “I was inspired by the ESP,” says Charles, “and I want to pass that spirit along.”
