Otis Super Double-Deck Elevators Chosen for Haikou Twin Towers in South China

Tianjin, China, May 31, 2018 — Otis Elevator (China) Co., Ltd. (“Otis China”) will provide nine super double-deck elevators for the iconic Haikou Twin Towers project. Helping create a building that will represent the modern face of Haikou city, this new agreement further endorses Otis as a leader in people-moving solutions for the world’s new skyscrapers.

Rising about 428 meters above the new central building district of Haikou city, Haikou Twin Towers will become the new high rise landmark on Hainan Island, an international tourism destination off the coast of southern China. The South Tower covers a total construction area of roughly 380,000 square meters, and the North Tower offers about 340,000 square meters.

Otis’ super double-deck technology automatically adjusts the height between the cars in the double-deck configuration to give architects more freedom to plan diverse floor heights while still taking advantage of efficient double-deck elevator systems. The unique technology has been adopted in many landmark buildings in China, including Ping’An International Finance Centre in Shenzhen and Canton Tower in Guangzhou.

“An iconic building can energize a city and inspire people for generations,” said Luis Molina, President of Otis Elevator (China) Investment Co., Ltd. “Creating one requires a leap of the imagination, and a partner like Otis to help bring your ideas to life.”
