Members of UTC-4-Vets, a United Technologies employee resource group honored U.S. servicemen and women at the 17th annual Veterans Day Parade in Hartford, Conn. on Sunday, November 6. Along with 75 other groups – among them high school marching bands, fife and drum corps, veteran support services, and the Hartford Police and Fire Departments – UTC-4-Vets attended a wreath-laying ceremony in remembrance of fallen soldiers in Bushnell Park before the parade’s kick-off. After its completion, Parade Marshalls led a moment of silence followed by the singing of the National Anthem by Bloomfield vocalist Tony Harrington and a Pratt & Whitney C-130 Fighter Jet flyover.

U.S. Naval Aviation Electrician and Pratt & Whitney employee Liana Layug led UTC-4-Vets’ participation in this year’s parade, and took on the role with enthusiasm. “It’s important to show veterans from all generations that they should be proud of everything that they gave for our privileges,” said Layug. As a member of Pratt & Whitney’s Human Resources Department, Layug draws upon her military service when hiring veterans and supports their acclimation to the workplace. “Service members need to know that they will not walk alone in their career with UTC because we’re a military-friendly organization with a vast network of veterans and those currently in service.”
