UTC Joins Change the Equation to Build America’s STEM-literacy
United Technologies has joined Change the Equation (CTEq), a national initiative to facilitate literacy in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
CTEq is a non-profit organization whose 100 member companies are from across industry sectors. All of the member companies, like UTC, are dedicated to preparing students for STEM-related careers as an investment in their business and the economy.
“UTC has a strong history of supporting STEM education through a number of effective partnerships,” said Dr. J. Michael McQuade, UTC Senior Vice President, Science and Technology. “Joining Change the Equation is a terrific way that we can leverage other industry commitment to help ensure a bright future by enhancing our STEM-educated workforce.”
CTEq is unique in that it is the first and only STEM education group that brings corporate leaders together in cooperation with the White House, State Houses nationwide, and the foundation community. At a White House event, President Obama announced the collaboration and praised member companies for joining.
Change the Equation’s goals are to:
- Improve STEM teaching at all grade levels, with a larger and more racially, ethnically and gender-diverse pool of highly-capable STEM teachers.
- Deepen student appreciation and excitement for STEM programs and careers to increase enrollment and success, especially among females and students of color.
- Achieve a sustained commitment to the STEM movement from business leaders, government officials, STEM teachers and other stakeholders
UTC’s other nationwide STEM education commitments include partnerships with:
- FIRST Robotics
- Junior Achievement
- International Science and Engineering Fair
