Supplier Environment, Health and Safety
Our global supplier EH&S initiative ensures that 100 percent of all identified key and critical suppliers meet UTC's EH&S five minimum expectations. The program is a joint effort between EH&S and supply management.
Suppliers must:
- Provide safe working conditions for all employees, customers and contractors
- Adhere to all applicable national, regional, state, and local laws and regulations governing EH&S practices
- Operate in a manner that minimizes environmental impacts
- Limit use of natural resources and promote sustainable natural resource practices
- Extend and communicate these EH&S requirements to their suppliers.
All of our key and critical suppliers must complete an 18-question self-assessment and create corrective action plans to meet our five expectations. UTC monitors the suppliers’ progress to ensure these steps are completed. In 2010, almost all suppliers in the program are meeting our EH&S expectations.
The global scope of our operations gives us the opportunity to affect the performance of thousands of businesses around the world. UTC is committed to expanding both the depth and breadth of this program; depth in the level of EH&S expectations of our suppliers, and breadth in the number of suppliers in the program. We will continue to work externally with other corporations on the benchmarking and standardization of EH&S expectations, as well as aligning our Supplier EH&S Program requirements with the Supplier Gold Program.
