At UTC, we believe that companies and individuals each have a role to play in making our communities great places to live and work.

We support this belief by encouraging employee volunteerism, matching employee donations to charities of their choice, and helping employees to put their on-the-job skills to work to solve problems at non-profit organizations.

Employee Volunteering

UTC’s employees are very generous with their time. In the United States, our employees volunteered tens of thousands of hours in the past year.

In Connecticut, where we have our largest concentration of employees in the world, volunteer opportunities attract strong employee participation. Our Building Community Excellence program, launched in 2008, matches UTC employee expertise with the needs of non-profit organizations in the Greater Hartford Connecticut area. 

Employee Giving

For U.S.-based employees, UTC matches their gifts to non-profit organizations. These donations are made primarily through the United Way, Matching Gift and Volunteer Grant programs:

• To help its neighbors, UTC supports local United Way chapters across the United States. Our largest United Way workplace campaign is run annually in our corporate headquarters of Hartford, to benefit the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut. UTC and its business units both provide a corporate gift and run a workplace giving campaign that together in 2010 raised more than $6.5 million. Over 50 years, employees have helped raise more than $100 million.
• Since 1967, UTC's Matching Gift Program has matched millions of dollars in employee donations to schools, colleges and universities, cultural institutions and environmental organizations. In 2010 alone, UTC contributed nearly $1.3 million to employees' favorite non-profit organizations.
• The Volunteer Grant Program is recognizes and encourages employee volunteer activities. UTC provides $250 to any qualified organization for which an employee volunteers at least 60 hours per year. In 2010, UTC donated more than $106,250 in Volunteer Grants.
