Kelly Lierzer

Associate Director, Hot Section Engineering, Pratt & Whitney

Connecting with the people from UTC at the NSBE conference is what enabled me to see what great opportunities it could provide for me. More

To come full circle and return as a UTC recruiter was exciting for me because I remember what it was like to be that eager young engineer on the other side. At the NSBE National Convention, the companies that made the best impression on me were the ones where I really felt the passion from their people as they spoke about their experiences working for their company. UTC had such a great presence at the NSBE National Conference which I think aided in making lasting impressions on many engineers when they returned home. All the UTC recruiters were very friendly and eager to share stories about their personal experiences working for UTC as well as the wide range of products and services that they had played a role in developing. It has been 13 years since I first made the decision to join UTC at Pratt & Whitney as a design engineer, and looking back, I have enjoyed my opportunity to work as a lead project engineer on cutting edge technology for both its military and commercial engines. I have earned my MBA with the UTC Employee Scholar Program and built many great relationships with some of the best and brightest along the way. I am excited about my future at UTC and look forward to helping other young engineers find their place here.

My UTC career began when I was recruited during the 2008 NSBE National Convention in Orlando. After learning about UTC’s state-of-the-art technologies and diverse product portfolio, I realized that UTC is a highly valued leader in the industry. As a diverse company, I’ve had the opportunity to work within both aerospace and commercial building divisions of the company. Whether it’s developing next-generation aircraft components or hardware for Otis’ SkyRise elevators, the challenges and experiences here are truly unique and rewarding. UTC’s unyielding approach to employee development, engagement and growth helps you to become a pioneer who innovates and solves the challenges of tomorrow.

Attending the 40th NSBE Convention was a dynamic opportunity for me to enrich my professional development, while networking with other professionals in the STEM fields. More

Additionally, it was a chance to reacquaint myself with UTC’s businesses and diverse and innovative product offerings. The teamwork, knowledge and excitement from UTC’s employees at the conference were encouraging and stimulating. When the opportunity arose for me to join this vibrant, global organization I was excited and intrigued to take on challenges in a different industry than my previous company. As a NSBE member for more than 16 years, I was equally impressed with UTC’s commitment to invest, develop and employ diverse talent that will continue to add value to its customers and product lines.
