European Financial Leadership Program (Europe)

European Financial Leadership Program

United Technologies' European Financial Leadership Program (EFLP) is one of today's foremost development opportunities for associates who want an exciting career in finance.

About our Program

For candidates with legal authorization to work in the European Union, the European Financial Leadership Program (EFLP) is a key entry point to start a career in finance at UTC. EFLP graduates are viewed as the future finance leaders of UTC, with training and experience that is greatly valued throughout the company.

The goals of the EFLP are to broaden associates’ finance and accounting skills, establish a network of professional contacts and help to gain in-depth knowledge about UTC's products and processes. Associates receive personal guidance from top financial leaders, managers and EFLP alumni. Upon graduation EFLP associates assume roles within UTC businesses in Europe.

To enhance the EFLP experience and develop business acumen, every year for the three years, associates attend a training conference as well as a networking event with UTC finance executives. In addition, UTC sponsors financial training and exams with organizations such as the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) for EFLP associates who desire to follow these training schemes.

What makes for a good candidate?

We’re looking for self-motivated, driven and team-oriented applicants with demonstrated leadership skills, strong communication and analytical skills and the ability to be adaptable and mobile.

Additional characteristics of a top EFLP candidate include:

  • Master’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Relevant internship experience
  • Desire to make a difference and a drive to deliver maximum value
  • Geographically mobile and willing to work and live in different places in Europe
  • Global cultural awareness and good influencing skills
  • Fluency in English and at least two other European languages
  • Legal authorization to work in the European Union
  • Availability beginning of June to join the program

Assignments and Program Rotations

During the three-year period, associates work at three different UTC companies in Europe and in three different functions within finance. Current rotations exist in Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Rotation roles include:

Financial Planning & Analysis

Work in forecasting, planning and analysis disciplines. Learn UTC’s rigorous annual planning cycle, including preparation of periodic management presentations and reports.

Experience the requirements to meet UTC standards for accounting under both U.S. accounting standards and local accounting rules. Includes account analysis and reconciliation, journal entry preparation and approval, internal control reviews and interaction with both internal and external auditors.

Internal Controls

Train in either Internal Audit or a business unit’s Controllers department to further exposure to the importance of financial controls. With Internal Audit: exposure to different business units, management and accounting systems, geographies and cultures. With Controllers: learn the challenges of the period-end and year-end close processes, ensuring that timetables met while upholding the strongest adherence to U.S. and local GAAP and UTC policies.

Business Development

Support for local or regional business development teams in the execution of merger & acquisition projects. Includes participation in the identification of new investment opportunities, analyze financial data, prepare financial models, ensure quality of supporting documentation and support the approval processes.
